Pixar Animation Studio received its 19th Academy Award during the 90th Academy Awards hosted this week. Totalling 9 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film (only 17 of these were ever awarded), highest any studio on the planet has, the second highest being Disney at 3 Awards.

I am a big fan of Pixar and every year during Academy Awards, I wait to watch Pixar add new feathers to it’s hat. This love affair started when I watched ‘Toy Story’ as a kid!

What makes Pixar so great? I would say caring. They really really care about their films and strive to make them perfect.

It’s amazing to watch how detailed their every frame is. Just to give you a perspective, the rat from the movie Ratatouille — Remy has 1,150,070 individual hair on his body. In the movie Up, 20,622 balloons are shown lifting Carl’s house. Sulley’s fur in Monster’s University has more than 2,320,413 individual strands of hair. WALL-E was one of Pixar’s most complex films; it required 125,000 storyboards alone. Pixar is so detailed that they actually created diplomas for the dentist’s office in Finding Nemo.

In the world where I see people bitching about how their job sucks on social media all the time, it’s blissful to see these great folks at Pixar (& other great corporations) give their heart and soul to what they do!

Thank you Ed Catmul, John Lasseter and Steve Jobs!

“You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. What I say is true — anyone can cook… but only the fearless can be great.”
